Frequently Asked Questions

What is a PDF watermark?
A watermark is text overlaid on the pages of a PDF document. Watermarks are commonly used to mark documents as "Draft", "Confidential", or "Copy", or to display a company name or copyright notice across every page.
What watermark positions are available?
You can place the watermark in six positions: center, top-left, top-right, bottom-left, bottom-right, and diagonal. The diagonal option places the text across the center of each page at a 45-degree angle, which is the most common watermark style.
Can I choose the font size and opacity?
Yes. Four font sizes are available: Small (24pt), Medium (36pt), Large (48pt), and XL (72pt). You can also adjust the opacity from nearly transparent (0.1) to fully opaque (1.0) using a slider, so your watermark can be subtle or bold.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. PDFArc processes your files entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your PDF never leaves your device — no uploads, no server storage, complete privacy.
What is the difference between a diagonal and a straight watermark?
A diagonal watermark is rotated 45 degrees and placed across the center of the page, making it harder to remove and more visible across the entire page. Straight watermarks (center, corner positions) are horizontal text placed at a specific location, better suited for subtle branding or page labels.
